011030 - Grey Ghost Press announced that Terra Incognita: The NAGS Society Handbook has now shipped to distributors. Looke for it at your local game store soon!
011030 - Amarillo Design Bereau/Star Fleet Games is having a "fire sale" on its first edition Prime Directive RPG. When you buy any first edition Prime Directive product from the company's online store, the price is only $5! As if that wasn't enough, if you buy all five products, you'll only be charged $20! (The last $5 discount won't price won't show up on the checkout screen, but the company will deduct it before charging your card).
While the game is set to be replaced by the upcoming second/GURPS edition, this is still a great deal for people hesitant to make the switch, or for collectors!
011030 - Rogue Publishing has released The Collectors: The Burning House, an adventure in which the players take on the role of demons sent to collect a certain soul.
The Collectors is a completely self-contained adventure, meaning that it contains all the rules you need to play. It is based on the Fudge RPG.
The 81-page electronic download is available for $4.50 from the company's website.
011028 - Columbia Games is now shipping Trobridge Inn, a 32-page adventure for both HârnMaster and the d20 System.
011028 - Okay, it's not directly gaming related, but...
The official The Lord of the Rings Fan Club is now starting up. If you join now for two years, they'll even add your name on the credits of the movie's DVD.
011028 - Dream Pod 9 has received Superscience, a sourcebook for its Gear Krieg RPG, from the printer. Also back is the Dueling Tactical Supplement for the Heavy Gear RPG. Both should be shipping this week.
011028 - Green Ronin is now offering it wares through its own online store. I would encourage to always try first to buy from your friendly local gaming store.
011028 - Hero Games is starting to offer collections of previous releases on CD-ROM. The first offering is The Ultimate Ultimate Collection. No, that's not a typo! This CD-ROM contains The Ultimate Mentalist, The Ultimate Martial Artist, The Ultimate SuperMage, and The Ultimate SuperMage Bestiary.
011028 - Sanguine Productions has a new web address for its Ironclaw RPG line. Check it out at http://www.ironclaw.com.
011028 - Knuckleduster Publications has announced that its upcoming Cowtown Creator book will include stats for the Deadlands RPG. The company wasn't specific as to which Deadlands RPG (the D20 version, the GURPS version, or the original) that would be, though. :)
011027 - Assuming that things go according to schedule (not the safest assumption in this industry!), the third edition of Ravenloft should be on your local store's shelves on Monday the 29th!
011026 - Charon Productions, makers of the Charon Battlepack miniatures carrying case, now has its very own domain name! Visit the company at www.battlepack2001.com.
011026 - I don't know if he's serious about this, but Stephen V. Cole of Star Fleet Games recently posted this in rec.games.frp.gurps: "Did I mention 'shuttle wars' as another future ADB-SJG [that's Amarillo Design Bureau and Steve Jackson Games] collaboration? Trick up your own shuttlecraft with gatling [sic] phasers, missile racks, and for those darn tailgaters, small mines."
Like I said, I don't know he was serious about it, but it has a certain charm to it. I'll let you know as soon as I find out for sure!
UPDATE: I just received an e-mail from Stephen, and it seems that the official word is "maybe." As we would expect, all of his energy is currently going into the Powered by GURPS version of the Prime Directive RPG. As soon as the game is released, he and Steve Jackson are set to discuss Shuttle Wars!
011026 - Talking to the folks at Decipher, it looks like the new Star Trek RPG will have two 250-page core books, a Player's Guide and a Narrator's Guide. Each book cover the original series, The Next Generation, Deep Space 9, and Voyager. Later supplements will concentrate on each of the series in detail.
011023 - The Gaming Industry Disaster Fund Auction is going well, having already raised almost $10,000. While the auction continues, I have added a button in the left hand column of all the RPG Gazette pages.
011023 - Alderac Entertainment Group has released a 208-page tome covering Dragons for the d20 System.
011023 - Cumberland Games released a new set of Sparks. This latest set of printable miniatures as fonts, Sparks: Monster Cinema, is themed for Halloween. Check out the web page for a preview!
011023 - The folks who gave us JAGS have brought us yet another free adventure for the system. This time it's The Kraken Hunt, an underwater and seafaring fantasy adventure.
One of the more novel features of this adventure is the bestiary: a compendium of underwater monsters designed for the players (i.e. no stats, just comments and pictures). The adventure also features pirates, dangerous natives, sunken cities, lost towers, ancient relics, a six-page monster list of undersea beasts (some of which appear in the adventure and some of which don't), rules for naval battles, and the multi-tentacled beast itself!
You can download it from the main JAGS page.
011023 - Fireworks Television, the production company behind the awful Mutant-X and the brilliant Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, has obtained a license to develop a live action television series based on Forgotten Realms.
All the sugary details can be found here.
011022 - That's how I've been feeling for the last two weeks, and I'm not fully recovered yet. This is the first time since my last update (12 days ago), that I've had enough strength and equilibrium to sit at the computer for any length of time. I've been able to keep up with my e-mail from bed via my laptop, but my website is controlled from my desktop computer.
With that out of the way, let's do some updates...
011022 -One of the e-mails I got was from Mario Barbati of 0one Roleplaying to let me know that the company has released the second edition of its free Heroes & Magic sourcebook for the d20 System.
011022 - PDabble Games announced that it has released Amberdale 2: One Orc, Two Orc, Red Orc, Blue Orc, a d20 System adventure module that can be used alone, or as the second part of the three-part Amberdale Series.
The company states that the adventure is "part forest adventure, part dungeon crawl, and a pinch of mystery. Players will find everything an adventuring party could want, including challenging encounters, magic items, treasure, interesting monsters, colorful NPCs, and of course plenty of orcs." The .pdf download is a $2.95 purchase.
PDabble also reduced the price of Amberdale 1: Something Askew in Amberdale from $4.95 to $2.95, and has sent a complementary copy of Amberdale 2 to those who have purchased Amberdale 1 at the original price.
011022 - Dominion Games today has finally gotten around to releasing The Bestiary, a supplement for its Dominion Rules 2.0 fantasy role-playing system. The Bestiary is a 60-page guide to creating, encountering, combating, and playing beasts in your Dominion Rules adventures. Unlike the company's previous offerings, The Bestiary is not free--rather the company is charging $5.95 for a book you have to print yourself. You can get a content-reduced version of the book for free.
Also released are revised versions of the Dominion Rules Digest and Armoury. The revisions include no rule updates.
011010 - Wizards of the Coast has released a free downloadable .pdf file containing three alien races that didn't fit into the Alien Anthology for the Star Wars RPG.
Also available is a write-up for the Sarlacc of Aargonar (you remember the Sarlacc... the creature that was supposed to slowly digest Luke and Han for a thousand years...)
011010 - Steve Jackson Games has placed In Nomine Anime and GURPS Mars into play-test.
011009 - Fantasy Flight Games is offering a free .pdf download containing three races that didn't quite make it into its Mythic Races sourcebook for the d20 System. Just follow the link to the Mythic Races page!
011009 - Atlas Games has shipped En Route, a collection of short D20 System encounters designed to be dropped into longer campaigns. It is part of the company's Penumbra line.
011009 - Far Future Enterprises has acquired the rights to the grammatically misnamed 2300 A.D.
The company plans on re-publishing the game in a reprint series just like the Twilight: 2000 reprints mentioned below.
The first volume is scheduled for release in October, 2002.
In answer to the question: the grammatically correct name would be A.D. 2300.
011009 - Marc Miller is obviously watching what I buy on eBay. I just won a copy of Twilight: 2000 on an eBay auction, and Far Future Enterprises announced that it has acquired the rights to the game. The company plans on re-publishing the game in a reprint series encompassing the entire line, including articles from Challenge magazine.
The first volume is scheduled for release in March, 2002. Far Future will be accepting pre-orders on its web-site at the beginning of 2002. As a special offer, each copy sold prior to release will include a piece of original artwork used in the original game (while supplies last).
011008 - RPG Realms announced that Martin Dougherty has accepted the position of Traveller Line Editor for the upcoming T20 line of Traveller products for the D20 System.
The company has also posted the cover art for its upcoming Traveller Referee's Screen.
011008 - Gaslight Press is planning to release The Gryphon's Legacy, the first adventure in its Sun & Scale game setting for the D20 System.
The 48-page, $13 adventure is scheduled for a November, 2001 release.
011008 - Bobby Hitt, our friendly "rival" at Pen & Paper, sent me a nice e-mail to let me know that he has located the web site for the free Vanguard RPG. Apparently Vanguard just changed its domain name and did not (as previously reported) disappear!
Thanks for update, Bobby!
011005 - Marco Chacon has sent me another nice e-mail to let me know that he has made an "Alpha" release of JAGS Treasure, a free sourcebook of over 300 magic items for the (free) JAGS RPG. The book can be downloaded from the main JAGS page (it's about the fourth item down under the "Worlds" section).
In case you don't recall, JAGS stands for "Just Another Gaming System". I love that name.
011005 - The premiere issue of Fudge Factor, a free monthly web-zine for the Fudge (free) RPG system, is now online.
011004 - Green Ronin has shipped Jade Dragons and Hungry Ghosts, a compendium of Oriental monsters for the d20 System.
011004 - Gold Rush Games has started a web page for its upcoming Action System--another royalty-free gaming engine and license. I'm excited to see what this one looks like when it's released!
011004 - Dream Pod 9 has shipped Adrift in the River of Dreams, a sourcebook for magic in the world of Tribe 8.
011004 - Columbia Games is now offering a print-on-demand service for its sold-out Harn products. I guess that means that there are no more sold-out Harn products.
011004 - Chaosium has shipped Goatswood, an alternate campaign setting for its Cthulhu RPG line.
011004 - Alderac Entertainment Group is working on Cloak & Dagger--a "d20 compatible" espionage RPG. For some reason I do not fully understand the game will be released under the Series Archer imprint. Or product line. It's hard to tell.
In any case, the plan is to release the game in time for my birthday in March.
011004 - It looks like Tony finally closed up shop. Roleplaynews.com is no longer online. It's a long story, but in many ways it was my failed bid to buy that site that led to the creation of RPG Gazette.
Good-bye, Roleplaynews.com... you'll be missed.
011004 - Eden Studios has released its Chronicler's Shield for the WitchCraft RPG.
011004 - Steve Jackson Games announced that GURPS Vehicles Expansion 1 has entered play-testing.
011001 - ...and, after 21 hours of labor I'm a grandfather. You can see a picture of Anthony Scott here.
I can't be a grandfather! I'm only in my mid-thirties!
Stories older than this are in the RPG Gazette Archives.
