Star Wars Galaxies - Conclusion

There are only 3 main gripes that I have with SWG; 1) the major lack of Space Combat, there is a little bit of space combat in the piloting missions but there is very little space travel. The “Jump to Lightspeed” expansion pack does help relieve this tension but it is a Star Wars title, doesn’t the name itself imply that there should be wars fought amongst the stars, IN SPACE! I don’t really think it is fair to have to spend extra money to do things that should have been included in the game in the first place. 2) Only one character per account per server. I realize the reasoning behind this rule but that doesn’t give you much of a gaming experience only being able to play ONE character out of the many possible combinations.

Either having to almost delete your character entirely and start over so you can change professions or move to another server, losing all of your friends and alliances, and having to pay the extra cash. 3) The complete lack of Jedi. I know from being a Star Wars fan and knowing the timelines that this is more for realism than anything else. There should be at least a few. It is estimated right now that to achieve Jedi status it will take approximately 600 hours of game play. I am a die-hard Star Wars fan and I will tell you right now that is RIDICULOUS. With my gripes now being dealt with, I will move on to the conclusions.

The graphics are amazing, the detail in the game play is superb, and SWG really does bring you right into the heart of that Star Wars universe. It will take you a long time (and a lot of cash at $15 a month) especially if you dream of becoming a Jedi, you will do a lot of things over and over again, and if you plan on jumping in an X-wing or TIE fighter you will have to shell out even more cash. In my opinion this game is for the hard core Star Wars fans (such as yours truly) or for the serious RPG gamers. If you just want to pick up a game and blast a few things or ignite your light saber and slice and dice then SWG probably isn’t for you. With all that being said I am going to rate this game based on a Star Wars fans perspective and it gets an 8 out of a possible 10 rating, for really and totally immersing the gamer in the Star Wars universe but also for having a few points that can be improved.
